Don't forget to fly

Help Japan

I know I haven't updated for a long time; real life got the best of me. But I feel compelled to do so now.

Few of you probably know this, but I lived in Japan for some time. It was one of the best times of my life, and I have wanted to go back almost as long as I've been away. My friends have been eager to get me back, and we've kept in contact since I left.

Since the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, I have been doing what I can to help them. I work with the Red Cross; we've packaged aid and I've translated a letter to the victims and to the Japanese Red Cross workers. I've personally donated some of my own money towards the cause (which, as a student, is not the easiest thing to do. But I can live on noodles for a little while if it'll help them). I tried to be a part of one of the relief teams going there, but I'm restricted to domestic emergency relief only.

I received word this week that two of my friends were officially listed as "missing" in Sendai. Their home was destroyed in the tsunami, and people aren't optimistic that many will be found alive at this point. The world is waiting to hear whether the thousands of people missing will be found.

I just want to know that Takashi and Yuki are okay.

The only thing I have left to offer Japan is whatever can be raised by my offering in the help_japan auction. Anyone who is interested can see my offering here. If you're even thinking about it, please help. It's all I'll ever ask of you.
